Jeez that sounds like a near-ideal solution to me, on paper. How well does it work in practice?
Since you're mentioning other parts of the world: here in France, where labor law is quite protective compared to the US, most jobs have a 3 month probation period ("période d'essai") where an employee can leave or be let go, no questions asked, extremely low legal risk (unless it's a blatant discrimination case).

Yeah, the GitHub work is a very strong signal and I had to delete a few paragraphs on it (in the middle AND at the end) because it takes you down a path that I have several more full blog posts to write about. So I would agree this is very "almost". But it's a start!
